Bond Report and Parcel Taxes

Measure C Facilities Bond

Measure C, generously passed by Alameda voters in 2004, provided $63 million in funds for a myriad of needed improvements to our schools district wide. The $63 million was maximized by combining it with developer fees and State Modernization and Growth funds for a total of $91 million.

Measure C Annual Update - November 29, 2011

Thanks to Measure C, our schools are now safer, more energy efficient, connected to technology, and ADA accessible.

Measures A & H Parcel Taxes

Measure A was a $3 million parcel tax passed by voters in 2005. Measure H was a $4 million parcel tax passed by voters in 2008.

Their combined $7 million in funding helps offset cuts by the State of California to support teacher staffing, school counseling, music programs, athletic programs and Advanced Placement courses, among other programs.

Both parcel taxes have been replaced as of June 2011 by a new parcel tax, Measure A, which was passed by Alameda voters on March 8, 2011. See below for more information on Measure A 2011.

Measure A 2011- Replacement Parcel Tax

On March 8, 2011 Alameda voters passed Measure A by 68.01%. This new parcel tax has replaced the previous Measure A & H effective June 2011. Measure A will generate approximately $12 million per year for seven years. Click here to read more about the details of Measure A

Measure H Lawsuits

In August 2008, two lawsuits were filed against Measure H.

The lawsuits are Beery v. Alameda Unified School District and Borikas v. Alameda Unified School District. Both lawsuits are “reverse validation actions” which means that the plaintiffs are asking a judge to invalidate Measure H and prohibit AUSD from collecting the parcel tax.

In June 2010, the Judge in the Beery v. AUSD case ruled that the Measure H parcel tax structure is legal. See press release for all the details .

Please see the latest press releases  for more updates on the status of the lawsuits.
