Employee of the Month
The purpose of the employee recognition program is to promote a greater appreciation of the District’s employees and to publicly honor specific employees for outstanding service which directly or indirectly contributes to students in the Alameda Unified School District. Each month recipients is publicly recognized by the Board of Education. A certificate signed by the President of the Board of Education and the Superintendent of schools is presented to the persons selected. Persons selected have their picture on display in the District office for the school year. All winners have appropriate documentation of the award entered into their personnel file.

2011 Teacher of the Year
Liza Young, Teacher at Washington Elementary School. Ms. Young was nominated by a fellow teacher at Washington School. “Liza is an enthusiastic and creative teacher that makes a lasting impact on students’ lives.” Judy Goodwin, principal at Washington Elementary School, states, “When I visit Liza’s room and ask a student what they are working on they know the task, why they are learning it and how it links to the standards. Liza has created this instructional environment through a great deal of work and planning. However, when you watch her teach, it is with an ease and clarity well beyond her professional years.”
