Enrollment for the 2011-2012 School Year
Alameda USD is currently accepting enrollment. Please go to your neighborhood school to start the enrollment process. Check the map above to find your school. If you would like to contact the school directly, here is the list of School phone numbers and addresses. If you have any other questions, please call Student Services at (510) 337-7072.
You will need to fill out the following enrollment packet as well as bring the required documentation (listed below in "New Student Enrollment"). Printed packets are also available at the schools.
2011-2012 ENROLLMENT PACKETS
The following important information is designed to help you successfully enroll your child in school. Please see the AUSD school boundary map (above), or call Student Services at 510-337-7072 if you need assistance in identifying your home school. All children who are 5 years old on or before December 2nd are eligible for kindergarten, and those who are 6 years old on or before December 2nd are eligible for 1st grade.
To enroll you will need to provide:
-
Completed Enrollment Packet (print packet above; packet also available at your local school
-
A picture ID - Current California State Driver’s License, Current California State ID Card, Valid Passport or Consulate Issued Picture ID
-
Two current utility bills - electric, gas, garbage, or water only (no phone, credit card or other "bill" will be accepted). If you are not responsible for two utility bills, make sure it is stated in the lease.
-
One of the following original documents with the parent/guardian’s name and address: Property Tax Bill or Close of Escrow Statement with the parent name and property address, Tenant copy of Rental or Lease Agreement with parent name, student name, and address, as well as manager or owner’s name and phone number
-
Proof of your child’s age- Birth certificate, passport, baptismal record
-
Immunization records (see "Health Services" for immunization requirements)
Alternatives to these documents are possible, and the office staff can help if necessary.
If the parent gives the school the wrong address or fails to notify the school of a change in address, the school will transfer the child to the correct school. If you move, it maybe possible to have your child continue at his/her current school if the school has space and you apply for a transfer. Be sure to notify the school if you move.
We want to place all students in their home school, but some schools can be full at particular grade levels. You will be notified, at the time of enrollment, if your child’s grade level is overenrolled and given a letter stating that your child will be placed on a waiting list. If your child’s name is on a waiting list he/she may be redirected to another school. For those enrolling at the beginning of the school year we have 20 days after school starts to balance classes. During this time we will determine if we need to open a new class, or redirect students to another school. Students who are redirected are kept on a waiting list and may return to their neighborhood school when openings become available. Once a redirected student attends a school for two years they may stay through the highest grade level of the schooI. If you have questions please call Student Services at 337-7072.
Students living outside the AUSD city limits who wish to attend our schools must apply for an interdistrict permit from their home district, then bring it to the AUSD office of Student Services for approval. Applications may be denied, or the permit revoked for poor behavior, attendance or grades. Interdistrict permits must be renewed each year. Employees of the AUSD do not have to renew the permit each year.
Kindergarten Enrollment Information
2012 Kindergarten Information Night:
When: February 22, 2012, at 7:00
Where: Your neighborhood elementary school
Each year during the month of January or February all schools host a "Kindergarten Information Night". This event provides an opportunity for parents/guardians to meet the Principal and Kindergarten teachers, hear about the school, get valuable information regarding the registration process including receiving the Enrollment Packet, sign up for school tours, and ask any questions. This event is meant for ADULTS only, so please try to make arrangements for your child while you attend this important event. School's contact information
Following Kindergarten Information Night is Kindergarten Round-Up, a two week initial enrollment period will be held for students living in the zone of attendance. If after the initial two week period there are more students than available spaces, first enrollment priority will be given to siblings of currently enrolled students living in the zone of attendance that have returned a completed application within the two week period. The remaining students will be assigned enrollment priority numbers through a random drawing. Students participating in the random drawing will then be enrolled based on priority number until all spaces are filled. Students in the random drawing who are not enrolled will be placed on a wait list and enrolled in another school with available space. (Multiple birth students will be treated as a single number in the random drawing. If their number is drawn and the number of students exceeds the number of spaces available, parents may take the available space(s). The remaining siblings will be placed on a waiting list and enrolled in another school with available space.).
Kindergarten enrollment continues after the Kindergarten Round-Up through the summer. It is best to turn in the completed Enrollment Packet as soon as possible to ensure enrollment in your neighborhood school.
