Pool Closure/Re-Open Information
Lead-Based Paint Disclosure
Earlier this summer, JPA Keenan and Associates came to the Alameda Unified School District to do a routine safety inspection of our pools. Keenan is AUSD’s insurance administrator and had completed its safety inspection of other facilities earlier last year but was unable to inspect the pools as they were closed at the time of their visit.
At the time of their visit, they observed peeling paint on the exterior walls of the Emma Hood pool facility. The inspector recommended that the District have the paint tested for lead. MOF followed up on the request and the results of the testing are in the attached report.
The Report indicates that there are unacceptable levels of lead in the paint on some of the exterior walls enclosing Emma Hood. It does not state that the facility is unsafe for use.
Based on the results in the report, The District would like to complete further testing and do a remediation of the areas with lead, in accordance with the guidelines in the report. We are not recommending closure of the pool at this time, but a decision to do so could be eminent pending further investigation and the scheduling of remediation.
Signs will be posted at the facility disclosing the discovery of lead-based paint immediately.
