Throughout the spring of 2020, AUSD remained aware of the need for celebrating our seniors. Although in-person graduations, proms, dinners, picnics, and other social events had to be cancelled due to public health orders regarding COVID-19, AUSD maintained its commitment to acknowledging and supporting the accomplishments of its seniors and the meaningfulness of this transition time for families.

AUSD took several steps to celebrate its seniors.  On Friday, May 1st, for instance, KJTZ (96.1 FM and celebrated "Alameda Senior Signing Day.”  Superintendent Scuderi, Board Member Bonta, and other dignitaries (including our high school principals) all joined the hosts to celebrate our amazing Class of 2020. Then at an appointed time, seniors put their signs in their front lawns (or windows or balconies) and community members came out and cheered. Similarly, on May 29, AUSD's seniors were celebrated and then at the end seniors ran outside and threw their caps in the air.

To re-create a ceremony, AUSD partnered with Group Delphi and the Alameda Cineplex & Theatre to film students walking across the stage, receiving their diplomas, and making a brief statement. These clips were then combined with recordings of student, staff, and guest speakers to create a full, virtual ceremony. You can read more about that process here.

The graduation ceremonies will be aired on Channel 29 and linked here on this page according to the schedule below.
