Class of 2020 Information

introduction

AUSD is aware of the need for celebrating our seniors each spring with graduations, proms, dinners, picnics, and other social events, and in most years we support our students, families, and high schools in planning and implementing these events.

Unfortunately, we also must be mindful of public health and safety, and as we stated in our recent FAQ for 12th grade families, the current guidance from public health officials, coupled with our primary responsibilities to ensure student and community safety, lead us to believe that anything resembling a traditional graduation ceremony will not be possible this spring.

This page will serve as a hub for resources for the Class of 2020 as district staff, principals, faculty, families, and students brainstorm ways

Between now and then we are all thinking of a multitude of ways to acknowledge the work our youth have done up to this point. On Friday, May 1st, for instance, KJTZ (96.1 FM and streaming live on encinalradio.com) celebrated "Alameda Senior Signing Day.”  Superintendent Scuderi, Board Member Bonta, and other dignataries (including our high school principals!) all joined hosts Kevin Gorham and Kirsten Zazo to celebrate our amazing Class of 2020. Then at an appointed time, seniors put their signs in their front lawns (or windows or balconies) and community members came out and cheered.

Again, we miss our students every day and are deeply saddened by the fact we cannot celebrate our seniors in the traditional ways to which we are accustomed. We want to make sure that we are finding creative ways that comply with the most current shelter in place orders and appreciate your ideas and look forward to working in partnership with you.
