Spring 2021 Physician-Led Town Halls

introduction

In the spring of 2021, AUSD hosted a series of family forums on re-opening schools safely. The forums were designed to address the disparate impacts that COVID-19 has had on various racial and ethnic groups, as well as the questions members of those groups may have.

On March 11, Dr. Kate Kasberger, a local pediatrician, gave a presentation Latinx AUSD families on the safety of re-opening schools. The forum was presented in Spanish; translation to English was provided via Zoom.

One week later, Dr. Jameze James, also a local pediatrician, gave a presentation on safely re-opening schools to AUSD's African-American, Black, and Multi-Ethnic families.

On March 25, pediatrician Julia Lam, MD, gave a talk to AUSD's Asian American Pacific Islander families. Dr. Lam delivered the presentation in Cantonese; translation to Vietnamese and English were also  provided.

Finally, on April 1, Dr. Kasberger will give a presentation in English to all families who would like to learn more recent research around opening schools safely. Details are available above.
